My Philosophy on Home Organizing: Functional, Beautiful, and Reflects YOU!

Updated: Sep 20, 2021

Many people may want their homes looking like what they see on Pinterest, Instagram, home magazines, or shows like Home Edit. Everything looks perfect, colour coded, and ready for a museum display. While there are organizers who work with you to achieve that kind of aesthetic, I don’t think it is a sustainable and realistic approach for everyone. I don’t believe that homes should look perfect.

For small homes, finding and maximizing storage space can be particularly challenging. Trying to get your home looking like those on Pinterest which tend to be big homes with lots of space is not very realistic and rather hard to maintain. Who has their space looking like what you see on Home Edit and such 24/7? I believe what’s more important is that your home is functional, beautiful, and reflect your lifestyle and your personality.

A Home that is Functional

By functional, I mean having a space that serves the purpose that you intended it to be used for. Are you using your space well? Can you use a storage space for more than one purpose? Does it serve your lifestyle needs? I believe function is far more important than perfection.

A Home that is Beautiful

Just because a space is functional does not mean that it can’t be beautiful. You can enjoy your space by making small changes such as placing your items that doubles as decorating pieces. Ideas include stacking your books on the table. Perhaps add a flower vase, cushions to your couch or a framed piece of art (or my personal fave: a DIY framed quote that you can print off of Vistaprint!). Incorporating textures, colours, and layers will surely add the magic touch to any part of your home!

A Home that Reflects YOU!

Having a home that reflects you is important. That is why I take a customized approach to each client’s unique self. You want a home that you are proud of. And maybe one that you don’t ever want to leave. Half joking there! That said, you are the person living in your home. Your home should serve your lifestyle needs. For example, if you are working from home, having a work desk that serves your needs, is clutter free and one where you can easily find things would be important. If you want guests over, having a welcoming space that reflects your unique personality will make you fall in love with your home and make a lasting impression.
